The 1st Annual Get Caught Reading community photo contest has surpassed our expectations! Thanks to the many photographers of all ages who submitted 121 photographs revealing the beautiful readers of Evanston. We’ve narrowed the choices down to 17 semi-finalists. Now, the voting is up to you. We’ll let everyone know soon about a ceremony to celebrate the 17 semi-finalists and a presentation of prizes to the winners.

The voting period will be October 2 through October 9,  with winners based on popular vote through the Internet from the community-at-large. Six winners will be chosen. There will be a first and second place award for those 18 and under, and a first and second place for those older than 18 years of age, as well as one Honorable Mention for each age group.

Reading is wonderful. It can be engrossing, stimulating, peaceful, fascinating, educational. It can be done alone, in a group, when you’re sick, when you’re relaxing on the couch or a favorite chair, when you’re trying to sharpen skills, study for an exam, or just to escape into another reality. Sometimes reading even puts us to sleep. We thank the many photographers who have helped show us all what Evanston looks like when it is reading.

The winning photographs will be featured on the Evanston Public Library website and prizes will be awarded. Two 1st Place winners will receive a Kindle Fire. Two 2nd Place winners will receive $50 Barnes and Noble gift certificates. Two Honorable Mention winners will receive $25 Downtown Evanston gift certificates.
